Brasília – The National Day to Combat Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children and Adolescents is being commemorated today (18) in various parts of the country with shows, caravans, and demonstrations. The theme of this year’s campaign is ‘Sexual Rights are Human Rights.’

Various federal government agencies will commemorate the date by enacting measures to deal with the problem. In the Ministry of Justice, for example, the minister of Social Development and Hunger Alleviation, Patrus Ananias, will sign an order establishing a work group to combine the activities of his ministry with those of the Ministry of Health to look after children and adolescents who are victims of violence. The minister of Education, Fernando Haddad, will also take part in the ceremony.

During the same ceremony, Patrus and the national Human Rights secretary, Paulo Vannuchi, will sign a supplementary term of technical cooperation with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for the systematization of the Program of Integrated, Referential Actions for the Confrontation of Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents (PAIR). The Ministry of Health will take advantage of the occasion to launch the document, ‘Theoretical Landmark for Youth and Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health.’
