Of the total exported by hamburger producer Braslo, 50% were directed to the Arab countries, which started consuming in the beginning of the year the products made in the city of Osasco, in the state of São Paulo, in the southeastern region of Brazil. Up to now, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Oman have imported 900 tonnes of beef hamburgers industrialised by Braslo.
‘This operation is very promising as McDonald’s licensed Braslo as a supplier of bovine products to the region. So, we will have the opportunity of supplying beef hamburgers for an undetermined period, as long as Brazil remains competitive,’ stated the general director at Braslo, Roberto Ruban. ‘Our challenge is to supply products that meet not only the strict specifications of the McDonald’s system, but that also meet the religious demands of the region,’ explains Ruban. Braslo is manufacturing products that use halal beef as raw materials, following the Islamic rules.
In Brazil, Braslo sends about 75% of the current production in their factory to McDonald’s. Last year, the factory supplied 15,000 tonnes of hamburgers to the fast-food chain, as well as 2,600 tonnes of poultry products and 300 tonnes of fish-based products, which yielded the company gross revenues of R$ 140 million, the equivalent to US$ 63.4 million in current exchange rates.
Throughout the world, the majority of products based on bovine beef, poultry and pork at McDonald’s is supplied by companies of the OSI Group, of which Braslo is part. This partnership started in 1955, year the North American fast-food chain was founded.
