
Swiss Mobile Service Provider Uses an Unusual eBay Auction to Find the Face for its Latest Advertising Campaign

With the slogan Bid Yourself Famous, the Swiss company United Mobile has started an unusual initiative to find models: From July 13th to July 23rd 2006, new female models 18 years and above can bid on eBay for a job as the model for the company’s international advertising campaign. In this way, the company hopes to find the most authentic possible figurehead for its unique mobile services worldwide, while also providing amateur models with a serious opportunity to realise their dreams of becoming professional models. The winner will go on to become the Face of United Mobile at a professional photo shoot on 31st July 2006. The international advertising campaign will be launched in the late summer of 2006. Revenue from the auction will go to the international children’s charity World Vision.
The company is looking for attractive women all over the world between the ages of 18 and 35, with a pleasant and natural appeal. The eBay auction starts on 13th July 2006 at 7.30 PM and is very simple: Prospective models go to http://www.ebay.de and search for the key words Chance Of Your Life or
Model Job. They can then click on Contact the seller (Kontakt mit dem Verkaufer) and write ‘Yes, I want to take the chance of my life’ providing a full body picture as well as a copy of their identity card for the auction.
All the information at http://www.united-mobile.com/ebay. The participant with the most successful bid will be invited to an all-day studio shoot in Germany on 31st July 2006 - all costs paid for by United Mobile.
The campaign will be based on the United Mobile international mobile service - a service that ensures travellers feel at home while abroad, enabling mobile communication at very reasonable prices. For example, they provide incoming calls free of charge in over 80 countries. ‘In order to establish a global, competitive and future-oriented network, we have followed new technological and strategic paths’, explains Sven Donhuysen, CEO and president of United Mobile. ‘It is only consistent for us to take an unconventional route in marketing too’. The planned advertising theme will show the model sitting on a green sofa and talking on the phone in front of changing backgrounds. This theme will be adapted internationally for classic adverts, outdoor advertising and also for online and trade marketing.
