Businesses looking for referrals and exposure can now do so with a quirky new website that allows them to ‘tag’ their own website. Homepage Tags directed by UK student entrepreneur Sadeq Al-Ansi, 24, allows subscribers to click their way to the top and maximise potential traffic. The website is a challenge, to see if he can reach his target of 10,000 homepages and publicise the Internet’s first homepage collage, whilst making a million dollars in the process.
Homepage Tags, also known as Homepage Collage went live this week and does exactly what it says on the tin – it features a collage of miniature homepage icons from subscribers. Hovering over each icon connects visitors to the website or allows them to make a referral to a friend. What makes Sadeq’s site unique is that subscribers, who pay just $100 a year, can click a button that immediately takes their icon to the top of the homepage, thereby maximising exposure and potential traffic from direct clicks and referrals.
Companies already taking advantage of this unique exposure include Internet phone-call outfit Skype, Homes Overseas – the best-selling real-estate magazine, Paypal – the online payments company, and pet retailer Petsmart.
The idea developed whilst racking his brains for money-making ideas, ‘I was browsing the Internet when I found examples of thumbnail images on a web designer’s portfolio. I thought, ‘That’s it, why don’t I list lots of miniature websites on one homepage?’ Then I thought I could include categories, to give visitors a much more convenient way of looking for websites, and deliver quality traffic to subscribers.’ The site also maximises exposure by serving as a useful website directory, because all homepages are categorised and tagged in a sidebar. Categories include Automotive/Motoring, Computing & Technology, Jobs & Education, and many more.
Sadeq has big plans for his site: ‘I want to make history with the Internet’s 1st Homepage Collage. I also want to provide a service for people to feature and visit useful homepages. I believe Homepage Tags are a powerful tool and will revolutionise the way we find, save and forward useful websites in the future.’ Homepage Tags also features a weblog by Sadeq.
