Hot Idea Earns Teens $10K

For most high school sophomores, the usual Saturday morning consists of sleeping in or sports practice. But for four 16-year-old boys from Newton and Wellesley, the time was spent learning about the business world and winning $10,000 for their idea for a thermometer.

The device would automatically take a child’s temperature and warn the parents if it gets too high.

Every other Saturday for 3 months this past spring, Shane Lampert, twins Jay and Neil Mayur, all of Newton, and Aasish Sharma of Wellesley attended entrepreneur classes given by a youth program run by The Indus Entrepreneur, a nonprofit organization consisting of a global network of businesspeople.

The twins learned about the program, called TiE, through their parents, who are members of the organization and family friends with the Sharmas. Aasish was taking a business class at Wellesley High School in the spring and wanted to hone his business skills. The twins then recruited Lampert, another friend who’s interested in pursuing business. Continue reading.
