With online movie download services appearing all over the Web, you may or may not be surprised to hear that BitTorrent is getting involved as well.
This time it’s not in a supporting role as the download software provider to a larger company, though; instead, BitTorrent is going to offer its own movie service.
There is one major difference between BitTorrent’s planned service and those offered by companies such as Amazon (Unbox) and iTunes: both of those services offer mainstream films for download, whereas BitTorrent is going to concentrate on offering films you just can’t get inside of North America, with the particular focus on providing customers with niche items such as Bollywood films and Japanese anime.
Launch dates for the service are sketchy, but BitTorrent believes it will be live in the U.S. before the end of the year and heading to the U.K. early next year. After that the company will be taking a look at the wider market. (Link).
