Future Rosy For Young Entrepreneur

The Tuttle Times:
Not only has she produced a unique item that customers like, she’s also selling it retail. And she’s only 12 years old.

Hope Ward (photo) has always had good business sense and artistic flair, according to her mother, Lori Ward. Both talents are combined with her creation and distribution of her decorative ink pens.

The pens themselves aren’t Hope’s own idea. Her mother made them for Hope’s teachers when she was in elementary school. But Hope has added to the basic idea, adding extra ribbon and vibrant mixes of color to make something special.

Each pen starts its life as a simple Bic or Papermate pen. Then Hope wraps each with dark green florist’s tape.

Each pen gets a silk flower on top, tied off with a pretty ribbon. She embellishes some of the pens with additional ribbon, which wraps around and covers the entire pen. The simpler pens sell for $2; the fancier ones go for $3. More here.
