Columbus Dispatch:
Want fries or a DVD with that burger?
Buying your favorite movie at a fastfood restaurant, grocery store or even the airport could be a touch-screen away at all those places, thanks to a local startup company.
e-Play has developed kiosks offering 800 DVD movie titles for sale at prices ranging from $20 for new releases to under $10 for old standbys and specials.
The company’s kiosks, which accept credit and debit cards, are going into area Meijer, Wendy’s and White Castle stores. 3 were installed last week at Port Columbus, bringing the total to 9.
The machines not only sell DVDs but also display movie trailers on a large color screen. A driver’s license must be swiped to purchase R-rated movies.
Columbus-based e-Play hopes to have 50 of the devices, each the size of a sodavending machine, installed in central Ohio by the end of the year.
‘It’s a very innovative way to give customers the opportunity to tap into movies that they like,’ Wendy’s spokesman Bob Bertini said. ‘We would hope it increases foot traffic in our restaurants.’
