An intoxicating, mouth-watering aroma permeating from the kitchen slowly spreads throughout the whole house filling the air with the smell of fresh baked goods… and success.
At the home base of North Country Critters, owners and operators Bjorn, Dan and Tom handle every aspect of their business from conception, to baking, packing and selling. They’d even be their own taste testers, but these treats are for the dogs. Literally.
North Country Critters offers homemade animal treats for dogs and cats, both big and small. It began a year ago as an opportunity for Bjorn, Dan and Tom to raise funds for A.C. PAW, an organization dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to animals and encouragement of positive relations between people and animals.
‘It’s for the dogs so the guys said they should bake dog treats,’ said Brenda Spires, a staff member at Bjorn’s House, LLC where all 3 - who each have varying levels of physical and cognitive challenges - live. The idea caught on and they decided to make their efforts a year-round business. ‘Some days this place smells so good.’
Besides the smells, the house is also always filled with excitement. For them seem to have found their passion.
‘It’s fun!’ Tom said of baking, which he claims is his favorite aspect of being a business owner. Full article.
