The House Small Business Committee is back in session today with Chairwoman Nydia M. Velázquez (photo) taking the reins.
Velázquez introduced 2o measures as her top priorities today, including reducing the complexity of the tax code and increasing fairness for small firms. The legislation she introduced includes H.R. 46, The Small Business Tax Fairness and Simplification Act of 2007, and H.R. 41, The Business Checking Fairness Act of 2007.
The goals of H.R. 46 are to help home-based businesses reduce paperwork and to provide more flexibility for small-business owners in filing their taxes. H.R. 41 would give entrepreneurs greater freedom over their finances by allowing small firms to receive returns on their business checking accounts, something they’ve been prevented from doing in the past.
But Chairwoman Velázquez says this is just the beginning: ‘The bottom line here is that there is a great deal of work to be done to provide much-needed relief to entrepreneurs, and open doors to opportunities that will enable small businesses to move forward as the nation’s main job creators.’
