2. Dessert-only restaurants - How about just a smidgen of strawberry or caramel on that cheesecake? Operating a dessert-only restaurant comes with fewer headaches than a full-service eatery.
3. Wine business - More of your neighbors are drinking a burgundy, merlot, cabernet, chablis or sauvignon. And you might be surprised at the number of extensive wine cellars in homes.
4. Burger restaurants - Remember Wimpy, from the ‘Popeye’ cartoon? ‘I’ll gladly pay you tomorrow for a hamburger today.’ Just hamburgers and no tofu or salads.
5. Children’s cooking schools - Whatever happened to home economics? Jane and John are substituting omelets and souffles for peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
6. Niche gyms - The cure for children who spend all their free time with a game control or mouse in their hands. Imagine dropping the kids off at the gym while you go out to dinner with the spouse.
7. Nonmedical home care - Pay attention to the bumper sticker, baby boomers. ‘Be nice to your kids because they’ll choose your nursing home.’
8. Children’s sports education - Don’t be surprised at how many parents want their child to become the next Peyton Manning, Tiger Woods or Michelle Wie.
9. Coffee house - Starbucks multiplied. The market doesn’t just want a latte, cappuccino or frappe, it wants a place to hang out.
10. Parties for children and teenagers - Parties are becoming more sophisticated and expensive. Whatever happened to the ones with a trick pony and clown?
