Career changer finds lawn care franchise keeps him close to home.

AJC.com:
Jeff Comer lived through a half-dozen company mergers and takeovers during his corporate career. Travel had become the greater part of his life. But when his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2005, his priorities were clear.
‘I was traveling too much, and I wanted to be there for my wife,’ he said. ‘I took a hard look at what I wanted to do and decided I wanted to go into business for myself.’
Comer’s wife, a nurse, came through her surgery in December 2005 in good shape. Meanwhile, he went through the process of deciding what his business would be about. ‘I did a lot of research and learned that franchise businesses have a much higher rate of success [than independent businesses],’ Comer said.
So he worked with a company that specializes in matching potential biz owners with franchises and found his perfect match with Spring-Green lawn care services.
‘My degree and my background were in microbiology,’ he said. ‘That matched well with this business. And I met with Spring-Green’s president and CEO – they’re wonderful people… It was a reasonable investment with good return on the investment. And the company is really there for you.’ More.
