Mom-Entrepreneurs Find Their Niche

Des Moines Register:
After years of selling real estate, Shari Walters understands what it means to have particular tastes. It wasn’t until she became a mom 3 years ago that the point was really driven home.
‘I have a 3-year-old, Kennedy, and I like to dress her sometimes very, very sweet – dripping in lace and flowers,’ said Walters, 39, of West Des Moines. ‘The next day I would want her in camouflage and leopard print. I couldn’t find a venue here where I could find that.’
The solution? She opened her own store, Bitty Boutique, 9962 Swanson Blvd. in Clive, where lace and flowers are sold, along with the bright colors and leopard print.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Bitty Boutique is one of nearly 6.5 million female-owned businesses in the United States.
