Alliant Healthcare, a privately held veteran-owned small business that manufactures disposable medical devices, announced that 2007 will bring a strong upsurge in their government revenue. Market leader Cardinal Health ($80 billion in annual revenue), will be distributing Alliant products via their distribution system to Veteran’s Affairs (VA) hospitals. This agreement allows Cardinal to assist a key customer, the VA, in complying with Public Law 109-461, signed into law by President George W. Bush in December 2006. This new law requires VA Hospitals to purchase 7% of their medical supplies from veteran-owned manufacturers, or at least $360 million more each year from veteran-owned businesses than they currently do.
Even a giant in this industry like Cardinal is affected by such a mandate. Alliant Government Specialist, Nicole Arend, points out that partnering with Alliant allows them to meet the veteran supply requirements without any product shortages or service interruptions.
