With the introduction of the new UK Indoor smoking law which comes into force in June 2007 a whole new industry has been created in manufacturing outdoor smoking shelters for business premises and offices. Many existing and new companies are sure to jump on the bandwagon for a part of this lucrative trade. Millions of of food and drink business’s will have to put up open shelters for the smoking customers in order to secure the custom, otherwise they will go up in smoke.
Although there are limited exceptions smoking will be banned in all indoor places such as offices, shops, restaurants, pubs, hospitals, schools, public transport etc. The law will apply to all places that are fully enclosed or ’substantially enclosed’. In general terms ’substantially enclosed’ means a premise that has a ceiling or roof (including retractable structures such as awnings) and less than half the perimeter walls have openings other than windows or doors.
