Toledo Free Press:
Jennifer Alford (photo) is a minority in her field, but to her, that’s a good thing.

‘If you look at the financial services industry as a whole, eight out of 10 are male. I kind of saw that there was a need for a female to get involved,’ said Alford, a vice president with Perrysburg’s Creative Financial Partners, who works as a financial adviser. ‘I think, as a female, there’s an advantage.’

Females, Alford said, make up the majority of the market’s buying power and are opening businesses at an increasing rate. Because of that, she said she primarily works with female entrepreneurs to set plans for their businesses, investments and benefit packages, such as health insurance and retirement savings plans.

Alford said it is her choice to mainly work with women and one that she values.

‘Just being female and dealing with the day-to-day challenges of having employees, I love having that in common with people,’ she said.

‘Females are more educated about money and are becoming real decision makers when it comes to starting business,’ Alford said. ‘To be able to work with the females, it’s a great niche.’ More.
