News-Herald:
The fourth class for hopeful entrepreneurs is under way at the Franklin Industrial and Commercial Development Authority.

FICDA’s Small Business Jump Start class, which provides an overview of what it takes to run a small business, has about 15 students this fall with business ideas as varied as a year-round Bavarian Christmas shop, a no-alcohol-allowed social club for recovering alcoholics, a pet hospice, catering service, machine and mechanic shops, and an illustrator who is interested in opening a studio.

The class is aimed at those with ideas but no business experience and those who already own small businesses but need to refocus their strategies.

Participants learn the basics of business startup, including developing a business plan, conducting market research and feasibility studies, marketing and promotion, managing finances and more. Volunteer mentors from the community work with the new entrepreneurs after the course is over and graduates of the course become members of a loan circle, which provides ongoing support and follow-up.

Each student takes part in a nine-week course instructed by business consultant Gary Svetz for a $50 entry fee. More info.
