How To Save Time And Money Over The Holidays

ScrippsNews:
Yes, the season is full of parties, good food and good cheer. But two things so many of us are short of over the holiday season are time and money. Here are a few tips to ensure your holiday is more about celebration than stress!

1. Set a budget. We know you’ve heard it before but it bears repeating. And don’t just budget for gifts. Consider all your holiday expenses like that new party outfit, tips for the cleaners and paperboy, decorations and entertaining.

2. Shop early. This helps you manage your finances in a number of ways. First, it will help spread out your holiday expenses over time instead of having to face one big bill come January. Secondly, you’ll be able to take advantage of sales as they come up. Thirdly, shopping last minute can lead to splurging, just for the sake of crossing things off your list.

3. Make a list. This will ensure you don’t wander around the mall aimlessly, wasting time. When you hear someone say they want something, or when you come across that right gift, jot it down. You don’t necessarily have to buy it right away but at least you’ll have all your ideas at your fingertips.

4. Shop with cash if you tend to over spend. Decide how much you want to spend on each person and only bring enough cash to cover those gifts. Some studies have found that consumers will spend 30% more when using a credit card. Or if you’re good about paying off those credit cards on time, use a credit card and collect air miles to save on future travel.

5. Cut coupons… read on.
