Making Money From Biz Journals Subscription Services

When Mr. Aboidun Thorpe gained admission to study accounting at the University of Lagos seven years ago, not only did he wanted to make a difference academically, he also wanted to impact knowledge to entrepreneurs and students within his immediate environment.
He says, “When I was admitted into the University of Lagos , I decided to start up something that would not only be profitable, but would equip entrepreneurs and business executives academically and add value to their businesses.”
He decided to start up a business distribution service by subscribing to the Harvard Business Review, published by the Harvard Business School, thereby acting as an intermediary between the institution and its Nigerian readers.
Thorpe, who is the Head, Subscriber Services, MagazinesFast Services Limited, says at entrepreneurship drive and passion for knowledge was what drove him into the business.
According to him, “I had the desire within me that there was a need to be satisfied, I started the business through networking. I was approaching people daily to market the magazine.”
He says he started the business on a small scale in 2002 with N10, 000, adding that the business then was not too lucrative because a lot of people were not aware of the journal.
On the benefits of journals, he explains that the Harvard Business Review enables readers to have insights about the business and investment environment, fashion, designs, architecture, computers and technology, health, sports and politics. More.
