Family Expands Niche From Junkyards To Recycling

Newlyweds Dan and Janet Rush were simply continuing a family-business tradition when they bought a third of an acre in south Phoenix nearly 20 years ago to open a junkyard.
A born entrepreneur, Dan Rush was soon developing additional sites to expand the ways he could meet customers’ needs.
JSL Management now holds more than 50 acres throughout metropolitan Phoenix, managing 21 recycling locations and processing about 1,000 vehicles a month, he said.
“I think around 95 percent of a vehicle can be recycled,” said Chief Operating Officer Layla Ressler, including .the parts, the tires, and recyclable metals.
The Rush’s niece, Ressler also grew up “in the business,” with family dinners and events dominated by junkyard recycling tales.
Still, armed with degrees in marketing from Northern Arizona and Arizona State universities, she spent several years forging an “outside” career. Continue reading.
